Her know-how comes not from evening classes, but a three-year saga that she and her husband John have faced since they bought a "luxury", four-bedroom David Wilson home in the Peak District, writes Christopher Browne

When moving-in day arrived the Snapes and their three young children were in high spirits as they approached the new estate. That is, until they saw the piles of rubble in the front garden. Concrete posts and metal poles were among items discarded by the builders, and it took three gardeners two days to clear it. Worse was to follow.
